With my love of fashion, I have always been very particular about undergarments. Your undergarments are literally the foundation of your outfit. They can make or break it. There are cardinal rules to follow. For example, the panty line rule.
One of my staples, though has become the phenomenon branded "Spanx." They truly can be a miracle cure to an outfit. It has gotten where I wear them with almost all skirts and dresses. They give you confidence that you don't have to worry about lines, jiggles, bumps, or anything showing. So, when I discovered an alternative made by Jockey, I was excited, due to the dramatically lower price. Here is my review & comparison of the two.
Spanx "Skinny Britches"
Pros:
- Nude color
- Snug enough to smooth a pair of bikini-style panties, but not binding or "tight"
- Leg opening doesn't show a line under clothing
- Very smooth fabric, your clothing does not cling a bit
- Very thin, weightless fabric
Cons:
- The waistband could use a bit of substance. It tends to roll down when you sit.
- The price does hurt. $45 and I've never seen them on sale.
Jockey Brand Skimmies SlipShort
Pros:
- Nude color
- Very soft fabric, very comfortable. Not quite as slick as the Spanx, but close.
- Waistband is significant enough that it stays up with ease. Does not roll.
- Price is what made me try it - $20. Less than half the price of the Spanx.
Cons:
- The leg opening is "banded" and therefore, shows a bit more under a skirt.
- Not as snug as the Spanx, and therefore, doesn't smooth as well. This is the main objective of this product and, therefore, a big con.
Overall comparison? I still prefer the Spanx, but will definitely wear the Jockey version with certain clothing items. The $20 price point can't be beat for the Skimmies. It is apparent that Spanx is proud of their product, but I can't deny that it is a great product. The biggest disappointment was the fact that the Skimmies did not have as snug of a fit as the Spanx. You could still see bikini-panty lines that you could not with the Spanx. The Skimmies would be okay, though, with thong underwear, depending on the outfit, and would be fine with looser-fitting dresses. I do recommend you try them!
